according to the assignment of President A. Lukashenko. Several measures were taken
to improve the investment climate in Belarus.

Already in 2007 several large Belarusian enterprises acquired their new foreign
owners. Among such were enterprises both state and private-owned. The shares of the
\"Motovello\" joint stock company, the largest motorcycle producing enterprise within
all CIS countries are bought by the Austrian firm \"ATEC Holding Gmbh\". Another
Austrian telecommunications company \"Telekom Austria Group\" bought the shares of
Belarusian cellular company \"Velcom\". Meanwhile the \"Swatch\" company got interested
in the \"Lutch\" watches plant.

Apart from that a number of M&A transactions took place in the sphere of banking. In

\"Slavneftebank» joint stock company. The Belarusian \"Atombank\" was bought by the
Ukrainian \"Deltabank\" banking group. The \"Home Credit\" (The Netherlands) penetrated
the Belarusian market by acquiring the \"Lorobank\" joint stock company. The end of
the 2007 year came to be promising as President A. Lukashenko claimed that Belarus
is about to enter the list of 25 most investment-attractive countries in the world.

However in spite of numerous achievements in the sphere of enterprise acquisition in
the Republic of Belarus there were a lot of unsolved problems as far as the
legislation, economy and business spheres are concerned. This important issue, which
has been deprived proper attention is the main topic of the \"Improvement of the
investment processes in the Republic of Belarus: mergers and acquisitions\"

enterprise purchase, M&A transactions in Belarus. Moreover it will provide an
opportunity of working out some particular suggestions of solving a number of
crucial problems in this sphere to the Belarusian government. Among the organizing

organizations, but also representatives of both domestic and foreign private
businesses. The conference will cover legal, financial, tax, organizational,
accounting, investment, insurance, as well as informational aspects of acquiring a
business in Belarus. The participants will also share their expertise and successful
